Bud Light puts trans activist on cans, leaves consumers in shock
Brewing behemoth Anheuser-Busch recently sent specialized cans of its Bud Light beer to trans activist Dylan Mulvaney, featuring the TikTok influencer’s face and printed text that celebrated her first “365 Days of Girlhood.” Mulvaney, who transitioned from male to female in March 2021, wrote on April 1 that cans are a “most prized possession” on Instagram with a post featuring “#budlightpartner.” A video then featured Mulvaney in a bathtub drinking a Bud Light beer as part of an official Bud Light campaign.
Bud Light’s vice president of marketing said that she intended to update the “fratty” and “out of touch” humor of the beer company with inclusivity, yet the company’s woke move was deeply offensive to its core customers and their values.
Some have suggested that the company was more focused on getting a high Corporate Equality Index score than pleasing its own customer base. CEI scoring is managed by the Human Rights Campaign (the world’s largest LGBTQ+ political lobby) and is a lesser-known part of the ESG movement.
