Today, Consumers’ Research presented Tennessee State Representative Chris Todd (R-Madison Co.) with the Consumers’ Champion Award for his leadership in defending Tennesseans against the woke agenda, fighting back against the ESG movement, and protecting Tennessee consumers’ hard-earned money.
To protect the integrity of Tennessee elections, Rep. Todd sponsored legislation that later became law to prohibit foreign funding in state ballot measures. He fought to dismantle DEI policies in Tennessee by co-sponsoring legislation preventing government entities and higher education institutions from maintaining DEI departments. To protect consumer investments, Todd introduced legislation in 2024 to ensure state endowment funds were being invested according to the best financial returns and not political or social agendas. His dedication to dismantling climate activist policies also led Todd to sponsor the Tennessee Energy Freedom Act, which safeguards the right to invest in companies that promote reliable energy.
“He has done so much from being instrumental in the banning of foreign funding for state ballot measures in Tennessee to the banning of DEI departments within higher education in his state and government departments,” said Will Hild, Executive Director of Consumers’ Research. “He’s just an incredible human being.”
Rep. Todd also sponsored legislation creating a new human smuggling offense, signed into law by Governor Bill Lee in May 2025 as Public Chapter 424. It established a Class E felony for harboring or concealing illegal immigrants for financial gain, rising to a Class A felony when the victim is under 13 years old.
