Nintendo Will Kickoff 35th Anniversary of Mario with Special Showcase

Nintendo recently announced precisely how it plans to celebrate its most iconic game, Super Mario Bros., for its 35th anniversary.

“We look forward to everyone joining us on a Mario journey 35 years in the making,” said Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser. “We are marking this significant milestone with a wide variety of games and experiences that all generations of Mario fans, from here to the Mushroom Kingdom, can enjoy together.”

The Japan-based gaming company confirmed rumors about a 3D-Mario Collection for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario 3D All-Star will include higher resolution versions of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Odyssey and will only be sold between September 18 and March 31, 2021.

Nintendo said that the package will also feature a music player that will allow users to play songs from all three games even when the screen is off.

A game and watch handheld console, similar in look to the original released in 1980, will be available November 13, with Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, and Ball, the first title in the Game and Watch series, all pre-installed. Nintendo says the Game and Watch Super Mario Bros will retail at $50.

Nintendo also developed a creative twist to the Mario Kart series.

The new game, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, will utilize AR technology to allow players to design a racetrack within their home. The game comes with toy cars and pillars that users place around the floor to form a track. The model cars will ride around and respond to the physical environment and are controlled by each player with their switch joy cons. Items will be in the game, and the physical vehicles will react to being hit with objects in the virtual game (if this sounds confusing, we recommend checking out the trailer; it will make more sense).

The game is the first in the series since Mario Kart 8, which came out in 2014 (and later a deluxe version) and will retail at $99.

Along with a new Mario Kart, the videogame company is enhancing and re-releasing Super Mario 3D World, which was initially for the Wii U, making the game co-op both online and for local multiplayer. There will also be an added feature, Bowser’s Fury, but Nintendo says it will reveal details for these games later, with it set to release February 12, 2020.

From now until March 31, 2021, Nintendo is hosting several events to mark the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.

If players complete missions through My Nintendo, they will have opportunities to earn rewards such as merchandise. Exclusive anniversary items can be purchased online or at the Nintendo Store in New York City through November.

Several products will also be available in stores. Mario themed basketball shoes, Monopoly, Jenga, and a Lego NES set are just a few.

There is much more to check out on the company’s website, with Nintendo going all out on celebrating the beloved videogame franchise.
