According to an NPR report, “Four out of five older Americans with hearing loss just ignore it, in part because a hearing aid is an unwelcome sign of aging.” Now, however, the company Doppler Labs is trying to change the image of the hearing aid into a fashion accessory. Additionally, the Hearing Loss Association of America wants Congress to pass S.670, the Over-the-Counter Hearing Aid Act of 2017, which the group hopes would create a new category of aids for people with mild to moderate hearing loss, making these devices more accessible to consumers.
