Consumers’ Research Hosted “Learning by Doing” Book Discussion & Cocktail Reception

Washington D.C. (July 23, 2015) – Consumers’ Research hosted an intimate discussion of “Learning by Doing” with author James Bessen on the evening of July 22, 2015. The event consisted of a presentation by the author followed by a book signing and cocktail reception.

Bessen was introduced by Tamar Jacoby, President and CEO of Opportunity America, a Washington-based nonprofit working to promote economic mobility. Bessen’s presentation explained the real connection between innovation, wages, and wealth. He explored the possible reasons why innovation in the most recent decades has not boosted wages. He then argued that robots will not replace human jobs, but instead require different types of education for those in the labor market.

After a period of questions and answers with the audience, attendees networked over hors d’oeuvres and cocktails while Bessen signed copies of his book.

The event took place was held at the Ringgold-Carroll House. Built in 1825, the house is home to the Diplomatic and Counsular Officers Retired (DACOR) organization as well as Consumers’ Research.

Thanks to all who came in support of the event and to James Bessen and Tamar Jacoby for making it such a success.
