Addressing the Cost of Obesity in America’s Aging Population

Americans’ life expectancy is 80 years, but despite living longer, we are faced with more chronic disease and more people with multiple chronic conditions. Much of this is driven by obesity. Taken together, these facts are driving health care costs sky-high and threatening the long-term viability of our health system – including Medicare. Obesity and obesity-related disease costs the United States more than $200 billion dollars.

CQ Roll Call’s policy breakfast briefing Addressing the Cost of Obesity in America’s Aging Population will bring together health leaders and policymakers for a health policy forum that will examine obesity in an aging American population and discuss comprehensive solutions to ease the health and economic burden for patients, families and society as a whole.
