On April 2, 2018, Consumers Research analyzed the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) complaint database to search for complaints related to cryptocurrency. Of the 1,000,304 complaints the CFPB has received to date since 2011, 2,536 of those, or 0.25% could be confidently categorized as relate to cryptocurrency.
Complaints by Issue
The issue in the complaint also differed greatly. Issues with money withdrawal ranked as the most common issue, followed by fraud, and then various miscellaneous problems.

Complaints came from every state in the United States as well as Puerto Rico, Guam, District of Columbia, and the European and Pacific armed forces. The number of complaints appeared to be centered around the most populous states.
